Rural Bibliophiles Ask for Help

Phoenix comes with an initiative to collect books for a rural school burnt two years ago.

In September 2005 the Glubinnoye village school in Krasnoarmeisky district (northern Primorye) burnt down with its library and all books in it. Since that time the children have been studying in a former workshop, the only part of the building, which remained untouched. Last year they laid the foundation for a new school building; this year regional budget made funds available for the construction. Meanwhile the school still needs to restore its library. The staff of the local conservation NGO Phoenix Fund, who visited the school within the framework of the nature-oriented educational project, learned it at first hand.

Phoenix appeals to all avid readers to share part of their library with the young villagers. All classic and modern books of fiction in Russian are welcome, as well as fairy-tales, riddles, poems for small children, and other. The school will also greatly appreciate all financial assistance to buy books.
