In 2003-2007, the Phoenix Fund and WWF held a weeklong marathon “Land of the Leopard” every September in Slavyanka town of the Khasan district. Children from other villages came to Slavyanka to take part in a painting contest, competition for the best dance, leopard make-up, and body art, poems and songs, and quizzes.
Participants were awarded various prizes: leopard photos by local photographers, calendars, children books, photo albums of “Amur leopards” and other things. Other villages of the district also had carnival processions, costume contests, concerts, ecological lessons and screening of films about our unique predator.
