Summer Camps for Schoolchildren and Students
In 2003 Phoenix organized a summer eco-camp, “Young Forester’s School”, for children of two northern districts: Krasnoarmeisky and Pozharsky, where forest management is the major income of the local people. Children gained theoretical knowledge and practical skills regarding the forest, fauna, protection of the forest, fire-fighting, emergency situations in the taiga and survival training. In 2005-2007, “Lotus” camps, initiated by the “Pervotsvet” NGO from Luchegorsk and Phoenix, took place on Solyonaya Pad Lake in the Pozharsky district. In 2008 we financed a children summer camp in Petrov Island in the Lazovsky district. In 2012, Phoenix supported a summer camp with 40 participants, schoolchildren aged 12-16 in Pozharsky district.
Such events are very important as they consolidate young activists of the ecological movement, enable young people to not only have rest in picturesque corners of our region, but to also participate in anti-poaching patrols alongside real officers, go on excursions to nature sanctuaries, and learn much about local plants and animals from specialists.
